Lorraine Mondial Air Ballons is a hot air balloon festival held every two years in the Lorraine region of north-east France.
Earlier in the festival, the world record for greatest mass ascent of hot air balloons was broken with 433 balloons, beating their own record set in 2013.
Unfortunately the balloons were cancelled on the first evening I went.
After waking up at 4am the next morning, thankfully the balloons were on! (And it was a lot less crowded.)
The baskets are brought in one by one on trailers, then the balloons are unrolled and inflated while lying sideways.
The most hilarious balloon was the rooster. It was making non-stop crowing noises. “Cock-a-doodle-doo!”
My favourite balloon was the château.
